An ingenious space filled with re-used cardboard boxes of all shapes and sizes... Where will your little one's imagination take them and what will they create?

Bug Hunt

We're going on a bug hunt… we're going to catch a BIG one.

Join the Wilderness Trust to explore and discover what bugs live down by the river running through our city centre! We can't wait to see what you'll find!

Each year at least 50,000 trees are cut down to meet the demand for the quantities of wrapping paper required, we can start to reduce this by exploring alternatives...

We're running an eco-wrapping workshop which focusses on wrapping using eco-friendly materials. Participants are encouraged to bring a gift to wrap or simply come along for wrapping inspiration and to learn new techniques such as origami.

Make Your Own Seed Bomb

Come and make Seed bombs for the bees!

Seed bombs are small air dry clay balls that contain compost and seeds (we will be using pollinator friendly, native wildflower seeds and basil).

When seed bombs are thrown into a suitable landscape, rain will cause the seeds to sprout inside the ball. The new seedling is nourished by the soil as the clay is slowly dissolved by rain.

Once you have created your seed bomb(s) you can wrap them up in recycled fabric ready to take home and throw into your garden or any other space that needs brightening up.

No Sew T-shirt Bag

We all know how bad plastic bags are for the environment, they take a whopping 20 years to decompose, and worldwide a trillion single-use plastic bags are used each year, nearly 2 million each minute! That's why re-usable shopping bags are so important, we can be even kinder to the environment through re-using items we already have and making our own, reducing additional waste too. You can achieve this with old clothing, did you know that 30% of unwanted clothing ends up in landfill, that's about 350,000 tonnes.

That's why we've put together the No-Sew T-shirt Bag workshop. Join professional makers to repurpose a favourite T-shirt to make a handy tote bag. This 'no sew' workshop, is inclusive for all ages and abilities, participants are encouraged to bring old T-shirt, although there will be some T-shirts and embellishments available to choose from on the day.

No Waste Challenge

Our climate is changing and by reducing our waste, we can lessen the impact on our agriculture and freshwater locations. To get us thinking differently about how we can reuse items we introduce the 'No Waste Challenge' giving you the opportunity to express your eco-warrior, artistic selves.

See what you can create with the materials you are given. The task is simple...use everything, even the paper bag the materials come in... We're looking forward to seeing how inventive you can be!

Each of the blooming displays will include some sneaky hidden recycled bees which you need to track down in order to be in with a chance of winning some great prizes.

Green Futures: A young person's observations of Chelmsford

The photos in this photography exhibition are the work of an art club who meet every Saturday at the Chelmer gate youth centre. Under the expert guidance of James Callaghan from Blue Sky Printing and using SLR cameras and film funded by Chelmsford For You, the group of 13-19 year olds captured and explored Chelmsford focussing on our green spaces and waterways. This compilation provides a unique perspective of our green city through the eyes of our young people and is available to view in the Meadows Shopping centre throughout Green City.

A hand-picked mix of environmentally focused organisations, activities and vegan/ vegetarian caterers, highlighting some of the key issues we face whilst showing us the ways we can be more green.

You'll find this in the High Street on Wednesday 24 August.

On the events' closing weekend an array of fabulous walkabout entertainment will be taking to the High Street, all with an important environmental message.
